With Week 1's Bonus Question being "Most Rushing Attempts" and Army one of the contestants, it's almost a gimmie to choose the triple-option-running/no-passing Black Knights. And 65% of the pickem contestants did so (50 of 77). And of those, 28 (56%) picked Army to win. But my Rice Owls played tough at West Point Friday evening, and Army made only 56 rushes, lower than all but two of Army's 13 games last season. Army still leads -- followed by Tulane (49) and UAB & Charlotte (46). But will any of Saturday's teams be able to top them? - - - + + + // * * * \\ + + + - - - Atop the leaderboard after the Thursday/Friday games are three of the five who picked Central Arkansas to beat WKU: dfwcane (108), Optimistic Owl (95) & ODUHeadset Guy (90). The first two picked Army in the Bonus, but only to Place and Show, respectively. Headset Guy expects Michigan to "Win" the Rushing Attempts sweepstakes. Also notable: Rice Owl fan Optimistic Owl picked three "locks" -- Ohio State/21 (Buckeyes are already up 28-0 in 1Q!!), USM/14 & UTEP/10 -- which has potential for big gains or losses.

UPDATE: Early in 4Q, FAU has come back to be exactly 21 points behind Ohio State: 35-14. OOwl's praying for no more or equal/tit-for-tat scoring for the rest of the game.

UPDATE 2: Optimistic Owl's prayers are answered, more or less. FAU kept the pressure up and OSU kept its energy down the rest of the way, the Buckeyes winning 45-21, a 24-point win that's well within OO's lock margin. Congrats!!

It's not a surprise that the Top 7 on the leaderboard after Week 1 all had the Army-Win (100 points) Bonus Question. After all, 28 contestants scored the bonus century this week. But what WAS surprising is that the leader (dblaze-441) locked all 15 games ... and made 7 of them! Usually folks who choose all locks make 1-3 of them and quickly sink to the bottom of the standings. Congrats, dblaze!! Might this be the best-ever All-lock pickem result? - - - + + + // * * * \\ + + + - - - FTR, Punished1922 placed second, with 424, by a more conventional (but still impressive) route: He picked 14 of the 15 games correctly, and had two victory margins on the nose (North Texas & Auburn).
